IMPACT !

From the stars deep-chilled by the darkness
came a dread rock hurtling in the night.
It was seven miles wide and Everest high
and it wobbled with a turn to the right

as it twisted like a hula skirt, tumbling thru the universe,
speeding meteoric like the comets only dare,
racing thru the cosmos, mega-tons coming close.
Life on the Earth unattentive, unaware.

Its weight shifted massive with a movement
from the pull of our gravitating Sun
that pulsed a convulsion which added more propulsion
to this asteroid ablaze and on the run

as it smashed winds of Neptune, crushed rings of Saturn too
bounced off of Jupiter to clear the face of Mars,
pierced thru its red dust, Moon looming up just.
People on the Earth eating, loving, driving cars.

I saw it flash my window ‘cross the night’s sky,
blazing closer, burning larger like my fear
and I knew time was braking to a standstill
‘cause the clicking of the seconds I can hear

as they tick the close of Mankind, blasting off the face of time,
tumbling with his wonders thru a space of endless black
where rubble claims his special brand of life made by majestic hand
that once stamped footprints in Time’s sand will echo no more impact.

Wow, Namyh! Makes me think of how Earth is just a small sandgrain in the vastness of cosmos, fragile and yet so magnificent. A place for souls to grow ... and lost opportunities to focus on what really counts.

Very IMPACTful!

Margherita

Margherita – You are right. In the vastness that is cosmos, we are just a small sandgrain pinhole in the map of the Milky Way. And if we don’t kill ourselves first, this is a great planet for souls to grow and focus on those lost opportunities. We just have to learn to not take all of this for granted and to not dismiss it as something that will always be here. Thanks Margherita for enjoying and for the "Wow". Namyh

Namyh,

What a find buried in the poems of PiP!!  This poem does illustrate how small we are - there is so much more out there.  And you write of the power so well.  IMPACT indeed.  You served it up so well.

That is a very well constructed poem my

friend which has evidently taken quite a

lot of thought. You wrote it well.

Margherita – I would be just as honored if you were the only one but happy if many did. Thanks Margherita. Namyh

Alison – I am so very excited that the excavation of this work was a success. I intended to show that Man’s time is finite and susceptible to Fate which are grounds for each of us to do much in our time allotted. Hope this served up dish feeds the spirit. Thanks Alison. Namyh

Lindsay – We don’t day by day think of what might harm us. It’s a gift of living as though you were immortal even though Death strikes each moment. I wrote this to demonstrate that even a gift has an expiration date that sooner or later comes due. Thanks Lindsay for stopping in. Namyh
