I never knew my father
I never knew my son.
The man that I despised is now
The man that I've become.

The wheel of life keeps spinning
The cycle's never done.
I never knew my  father
I never knew my son.

How sad this is.  It is never to late to kindle relationships they say, if you are willing to do that.  I was not, so can easily identify with this poem.

Hello Mike, you tell a very sad tale with very few words and I really feel for you my

friend, but I do think you are being too harsh on your self. Keep your chin up Mike
for we are all pulling for you. Take care.

Thanks, old friends. It's just a poem, a little creativity being espressed...that's it.

Something that could have been culled
from movies,
scenarios, tales told.

Short. Sharp. Poignant.

A man's coming.

... soft eye, sad sigh, empty nest;  years fly and sign themselves out in question marks.  Very, very strong lines to wander...

It's impressive, dear Balladeer. It implies a situation that is very often reality.

Perfect tune to it ...

Love,

This reminds me a bit of Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle"... Both remind us of how easy it is to let time slip away and distance develop. This is short but powerful... great write! *S*

Powerful write, Michael. I never knew my father either, though he was around.

Balladeer - It's the not knowing that rips at us. Then when we find out, we sometimes wish we didn't. There's a little of that in all of us as you so eloquently and poetically write. Namyh

Well done Deer...very well done.

your touch is right on...  It was almost
the end of my father's life before we
began to know each other...Death is so
deftly silent, isn't it?

Nice writing...reminded me of that song with the words "Daddy don't you walk so fast, Daddy slow down some cause you're making me run, Daddy don't you walk so fast."...James
