"The Pillar"

I think I need to build a wall
To separate myself from all
This chaos that is threatening
To overrun my weary mind

Or rather, I should run away
To find a safer place to stay
And organize my frantic thoughts
Before my dwindling sense is gone

But, no, I think my place is here
Despite my ever-growing fear
To be the pillar they cannot
Until this storm has passed us by

I pray they all can know, somehow,
That though I seem detached for now
I'll face this when the time has come
That I can stand aside and grieve

I really hate to see poetry flit by with no responses.  I want you to know that I read this and I enjoyed it.  I like your writing style -

Well, I can promise you that not ALL of my stuff is sad.

I just lost my grandma in June, and it was as terrible blow for me, as she was a major part of my life.  But as much as she meant to me, it wasn't anything compared to how much she meant to my parents.  She was my dad's mother, but she was much more a mother to my mom than my mom's mother ever had been.  They were very close, best friends even.

My mother is usually the strong one in our family, but in this case, she just couldn't be that strength, that "pillar" that we needed, so I decided that I'd be the strong one for her this time, and put my own sorrow behind me until everyone else was alright.

To be honest, its been six months since she passed away, and I'm still having a lot of trouble dealing with her death.  I think I'm using my writing as a sort of self-therapy (which I've done before) and I hope that, soon, I'll finally be able to let her rest in peace.
