The police have built
a small bon fire
on the sidewalk
of young Bones hood.

Stray kids,
bad kids,
yeah,
all our kids are strays,
and they're all bad too,
they all gather around
to talk with the cops.

Bobby

Hi Bobby, I hope you don't class Bones in

that bad kid bracket, he'd be heart-broken
for sure. Take care.

Bobby - I guess kids don't have to be strays to be bad but when the bad mingle with the good a bit rubs off on each.  Not sure if the cops in my land are the good guys but they are meant to symbolize that.  Bones has had and probably still has an interesting life!

Thanks dear Helen,

Kids and cops tend to be the same everywhere.

This brings back memories, Bobby. I remember when we could have bonfires.

~ and in today's vernacula, "bad" can sometimes be good! lol

Yes, Bobby, I know there's bad and then there's BAD. Bone's may have some moments of the lower case bad, but then, don't we all? I know Bones can take care of himself when it comes to the upper case bad guys.

I am just glad that you and Bones are back.  I like this poem.  I can "see" it in my mind.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Bones, Bobby.

That was probably one of the few safe moments for the kids.

Far too many children in this world are still on the streets and by God it's not their fault!

Thank you, Bobby.

Bobby - if they can stand around and talk with the police, I'm thinking they can't be that bad at all...

Thanks dear Ida,

Well, it wasn't a real bon fire, just a bunch of candles.  I'm glad it brought back good memories.

Thanks Paul,

Bones says thanks for saying he's a good kid.  I guess he's as good as any of the kids out there.

Thanks dear Margherita,

What you say is true.  You learn a lot out on the street, and not all of it is good.  However, a lot of it come in handy.

Robert, I find much reason for hope in this brief work.  The fact of the shared fire opening, in its primitive way, lines of communications between two usually warring tribes, casts a flickering light of possibility upon a dark social landscape.
Thank you
Jim
