If today is all there is,
And  Spring's promise in the air
Leaves winter chill behind,
While a gentle southwest breeze
Scours cobwebs from my mind,
     I am content.

If tomorrow I am gone,
I have known the love of family,
And the comfort of a friend,
The laughter of my children,
Summer days that never end:
     I am complete.

Should tomorrow be without me,
My children understand
That they are one with me,
And the lives they live
Will echo of my touch:
     I am within them.

When the East wind blows tomorrow,
With the perfume of the sea,
The world will turn as ever,
No less for losing me.
My life as celebration:
The way I chose to go.

If today is all there is
Then I rejoice in all it brings:
I weep with each new sorrow,
And sing with each new joy.
I treat each day as Heaven,
And today is all there is.

"We are stardust:  we are golden:  and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden."  --Joni Mitchell "Woodstock"

I think we all want more. *S* But if we can achieve this satisfaction... contentment with whatever comes is easier to reach. *S* I liked this very much!

Loved this.  I think this is wisdom and peace that only come with age.  Great write.

Ancient Cool One, if you are "content", "complete" and surrounded by the love of family, then you, my friend are experiencing heaven on earth! Enjoy each day!

May your grace and gratitude keep the blessings rolling in!

Love & Light,
Linda

Suthern:  Contentment is so often a state of mind that requires work, concentration and sacrifice.  Sometimes it is just easier to go, as Neil Young says, "out of the blue, and into the black."  Important to remember that, when living in the Now, today is all we have.

Clang:  In many ways I embrace my age.

Magnus:  "Our name is Legion, for we are many."  Taken out of context, I know, but this journey is our lives:  up to us to make the most of it.

Alison: Peace is what it is all about.

Earth Angel:  Peace, tranquillity, and acceptance of what is:  Heaven, for sure.

Ida:  Glad you enjoyed. Thank you.

Eirian: May that time be today.

Nakdthoughts:  We are not alone.

Thank you all so much.
Jim

A comforting soothing write, James, on this blustery coastal day.

..."today hath need of thee" comes to my thought, and life is the sharing of ideas, touch, and love's expression for those in our lives.  There is no time like the present for this expansion of soul!

I think sometimes we forget we have much to give.  I love the reminder!

Beautiful write.

A truly great write!  We always only have "today" but so often we live in the past or future.  I think I still have to reach the stage you write about but it is an intention of mine.

Dear Jim, your most beautiful and insightful words reflect the radiance of your soul. Awareness of the Now which holds everything is an important step towards inner peace and joy.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Love,
Margherita

I admit I never liked the word  "content", as it implied to me that nothing more need be done. Now I am older I can easily read the true meaning of the word in your words. But I seem  to want to hang on to the idea  that there is always something we can change. Thank you for this thought provoking  write. latearrival

Thank you all so very much.  Contentment certainly works for me:  no stress, a certain peace of mind, acceptance of that which I do not understand, and the joy of seeking knowledge that I have not yet found.
Peace all
Jim
