He saw her with her black umbrella,
standing like a Juliette on a canvas,
next to the rain and church
like a missing shirt to the winter morning.

She stood closely uncomfortable,
her black eyeliner couldn't lie any longer,
couldn't cover her tears
as the church bells
unearthed the deathly minute

Of the window sill sitting,
and waiting for the rain to stop
so she could stand
at the knees of her mother,
the knees of a rainless afternoon.
