They ate the ground and its residues of shells,
they ate the unknown bullets of steel
fired
by soldiers in the exhausted glances,
they ate the sky poisoned by fears,
by parties prisoners of reasons,
they ate the members torn away from their brothers,
the rain of thick blood which flowed of the eyes,
they ate rats
and rabid dogs,
they ate the bewilderment of the clouds of bombs,
they ate the fantomes which crushed their ribs,
they ate the night indifference and of time,
those whom they served had forgotten
that they had stomaches of flesh
which could only vomit
the hatred, the blood, the death
and what looks like them.

Mercy! What they have really experienced is pure horror, you have expressed this with painful accuracy, dear Yann.

... and those who lived will never ever forget, nor should anyone else ever forget, so that in future such horrors will not happen again.

Love and peace.

Yann, you clearly ~ and vehemently ~ wrote of the spilled guts aspects of war and not the ofttimes extolled glory of it.
An impassioned picture of the atrocities of war. Well done, my French friend.

Love, Peace & Harmony,

Linda

Yann, I have just finished reading a true story of the war in Russia and I think you must have read it too. It was written by a German-French soldier, (Guy Sajer) and it is by far the greatest book that I have ever read on the horrors of war. The things you say in your poem is exactly like it was
Horror, Starvation, Brutality, cruelity and the overall futility of war. Everyone should read it. Thanks Yann for sharing it.

Lindsay
