Her Shoes Stayed Home

These shoes are the only heart I have left,
the only part of her still here –
they were her favorites; did she leave them
especially for me, or were they missed
in her rush to leave?

My dream . . . is they were meant for me.

Yet the note attached, “blow away, far away”
said their staying crosses boundaries I’ve yet to see;
invisible lines having nothing to do
with my dreams.

My dreams that walked out the door
when I wasn’t here, all
but these shoes,
these shoes –
the only heart of her – still here.

Oh, Jimmy, this aches. This truly aches. It brought back a poignant moment of my own. When my daughter 'flew the coup'. I discovered her slippers left under her bed. At least they were soft and cuddly ~ and cuddle them, I did.

You are a fine, expressive writer.

Love and a warm hug,

Linda

It's always better to think positive.

Romanticism at its finest ... inspired by a pair of shoes. Great, enjoyable work, dear Jimmy!

Hi Jimmy, that is a sad post my friend but it is something to remember her by and

sometimes that is all we have left, memories. Good luck Jim and best wishes to

you that you will meet someone in the near future who is special. Take care.

Jimmy,

Your poetry just wants me to reach out and hug you.  I look for it and smile when I read it - even when it is a bit sad, there is so much beauty in your expression.

Love,
Alison

No, you certainly are not at a loss for expressive imagery.  I have to smile (even though this is threaded with poignancy) because I only own one pair of shoes. Where I go, so do my shoes...unless I am barefoot!  However, I always find someone's shoes kicked off in my living room.

Shoes say so much about choice--or lack thereof--and footprints leave messages that walk across one's heart sometimes, with or without their owner.

Wonder, gently and painfully spoken on the boundaries of "invisible lines" and dreams...

Obviously a fantasy...NO woman would leave her shoes behind!

It is a great topic, though, Jim. It could be an earring, a comb, or any small personal item that would be a reminder that she was there and now isn't...great fodder for a poignant poem, which you have done very well.

This tugs pretty hard at my heart strings.  Truth is it reads like a scene from a true story, and that's so sad to me.

You conveyed so much so well, jwesley!
