We Carved his Name

We saw the forest for the trees,
The Quakies, Oaks and Pines,
On our camping trip to the mountains,
We had such a wonderful time,

Cares of the city were far behind,
Troubles, a thing of the past,
For just a couple of carefree days,
Unfortunately, it would be over way to fast,

We ran and played from dawn to dusk,
Then made smores by the warm campfire,
The coals burned down as the moon came up,
And we just hated having to retire,

But with morning came the sunrise,
And birds flitting amongst the trees,
Bacon & eggs with fresh brewed coffee,
Ah, The smell of breakfast, carried on the breeze,

Josh had seen lots of trees with words on them,
Before we left, he asked me to explain,
“We don’t ever hurt the living ones”,
So on a fallen aspen, we carved his name.

I like the vivid picture here, and the respect for nature that was taught to your son.

good for you for teaching Josh
about not carving the living forest

Thank you both for your wonderful comments on my poem.  I feel I only have a short time to teach him as much as I can.
Kids grow up so fast.

You involve every sense as we read... we see the moon, feel the fire, smell the coffee and can almost taste the bacon... and we hear Josh's excited questions. But most of all, you involve the heart... taking care of both the living trees and the little boy and doing so beautifully!!

Tracey,

It never ends when you make a memory.  You are making lots and I love carving the names on a fallen Aspen.  I like Josh.

never intentionally scar a living thing
but leave your mark in gratitude
in the form of memories
before the living thing
is no longer
living.

Alison,  Thank you so much for being a fan,  I am not in here much any more due to the job, but am always happy to see your name in my comments,  Josh wants me to read all the poems I have written for him. We are taking them along with the pictures we took on the camping trip and making him a memory book.  The comments with the poems will be part of the book.

Love always,
Tracey

Threadbear,
never intentionally scar a living thing
but leave your mark in gratitude
in the form of memories
before the living thing
is no longer
living.

What a wonderful sentiment.  Thank you for sharing this wisdom.

Tracey.
