she was more the syrup girl kind
than her mostly proper sister was
sticky and always with that mischief on

like mud on the knees from playing
or bayou smells on her belly shimmer
where she leaned into old cypress places

and watched the voodoo man do his spells
turning the slippery elm into medicine
and making mudbugs grow big as hands

doctor richard loved her forest fires
when she got her urges all kindle heated
and had him over to stir her embers down

but on some saturdays in her smooth gown
she would hunt for the makin' man's skin
and take mr chin to her soul south mound

where he read her poems she could moan to

Good one, DS.  There is a Truth to you bayou tale.  Reading her poems she could moan to is Nirvana for poets.  This one took me there.

Sutra 8: Faith is not an alternative to thought: the one excludes the other.

poems to moan to....

Oh, yeah! LOL Those who claim to not like poetry just haven't had it read right. *G*

I couldn't see the pic... my computer's feeling uncooperative. *S* I'll have to save that treat for later. *G*

Enjoyed the walk in the woods--a new experience since I've never been to cajun country. You continue to woo us with your words.  Swooning at your feet--

You know the best time I ever had was in a place called LaFayette, Louisiana at a Catfish Festival - I danced all night!  Loved this as I could remember having poetry read to me just like this.

I like this piece a lot.. evokes strong imagery, simile, and even stirred my sense of smell   - A suggestion if you don't mind. What would you think about using 'cast his spell' instead of 'doing his spell'?

new fan Kos..thanks for the read..casting was not the intended application here..it suggest remoteness, doing is more hands on in application...welcome to the bluezoopip
