I use them when I light the fire in my woodstove - and I love the spark and smell.  Nothing like a wooden match to make my night.

What is a match? ~ Just jokin'! Mind you, it has been a very looong time since I had the pleasure of striking one! I used to love the smell, the sound, and watching them burst into flame! Now I use candle lighters. ~ Boring! ~ but very efficient and expedient!

"linger" ~ That's not a word that is often used in these rush-rush times! Pity! Personally, I DO "take the time to smell the roses"! ~ and to gaze into the flame of a candle.

thank you all!
I just love the movement, the motion, the sharp smell of phosphorus and the woody smoke smell that lingers, lighting candles, lighting well
