Mother.............................Me

I wear this face I borrowed -
Your lips, your smile, your hair
When I look in the mirror
I see you standing there

I wonder if you see me
Do you like what you see?
Answers for my questions
Just were not meant to be

Would we have achieved friendship
If you had had more time?
Death stole possibilities
And took you in your prime

I've wanted your approval
Struggled to find my way
And ached to have your guidance
For at least one more day

I celebrate your birthday
As I will always do
I wear this face I borrowed
It keeps me close to you

For my Mother, 10/19/22-11/10/71

What a beautiful tribute to your mother.  I am the spitting image of mine too, but we never got alone from day one.  I envy that mother/daughter bond. Lovely Ruth.

Suthern, that is beautiful. I have six children. Only one can I compare photos with; my middle son and I looked so much alike at the age of six. All the features were the same. I do not see any resemblences now to any of them. Anyway your poem meant more than that,I truly enjoyed it and am sorry she left too soon. latearrival/jo

Suthern, this is such an intimate and personal piece of work.  What a finely worked tribute to someone who was obviously a very special person, as evidenced by the sensitivity of her daughter.  Splendid read.

Lori: Thank you very much!

Mysteria: Many of my memories aren't good ones... cancer doesn't exactly bring out the best in a person. *S* But I like to think (hope?) a bond would have developed, if circumstances had been different. *S* Thank you!

EagleOne: That alone makes it worth the writing... thank you so much! *S*

late: I don't have a lot of photos, but apparently I look a lot like her, even as an adult. *S* I meet people who knew her and before I can utter a word, I hear either "You look just like your mother!" or "You MUST be Verda's daughter!" *G* So either they're seeing what they want to see or I got my Daddy's eye color and height and everything else from her. *G* Thank you very much! *S*

shalisadefa: Thank you so very much!

DS: always you are supportive of my efforts... thank you so much, my friend! *S*

AH: Thank you very much... your kind words are greatly appreciated! *S*

suthern - See the daughter and see the mother. They cannot be separated or divided. They are one. Love your work here. Namyh

Awww, your Mother gave you such a big beautiful heart.

You know how the sky bursts and the clouds part ways?
Well I'll be she is that ray of light smiling at you,
blowing a kiss through that warm and wonderful place where the sun beams.

This is such a tender loving poem, suthern gal~

Suthern One, this near moved me to tears. Tenderly scribed.

The resemblance is uncanny between you and your mother! ~ Two gorgeous blond little girls!

I am the spitting image of my father ~ but a feminine version! ~ I trust!

Very moving post, my southern friend.

Dear Ruth, there is such deep tenderness in your write. She must have suffered like you when an untimely separation was about to happen! But I am sure she followed you from Above, you make her proud with your profound beauty and sensitivity ... and art.

Enjoyed this much.

Love,
Margherita
