The rusted wreck
of the broken shopping cart
serendipitously proceeded
from one green plastic
motherlode
to the next.

Its guide,
hidden beneath layers
that could have inspired
Escher's genius at morphing,
was, however,  more evocative
of Hieronymus Bosch.

He mined
each green trove assiduously,
adding nuggets of  refundable treasure
carefully
to his creaking, wobbling chariot.
His acute accountant's mind
kept a running total
in crisp, clean ledgers that,
alone, survived
the culture shock,
the corporate downsizing,
of the Nineteen Eighties.

Sutra 3: See your reality for what it is, not for what you think it is: this is the first step to making your reality what you wish it to be.

Sutra 4: Do not expect your Path to be smooth.  It will have rocks, slippery portions, and parts that are washed away completely.  Persevere.

We have a guy like this who comes with a Safeway shopping cart, and he actually is very polite about taking all the cans in the recycling bins.  He is the most interesting looking person I think I have ever come across, and he probably has about the same history as your character.

Enjoyed this one.

Thank you, Mysteria.  I sometimes think that, but for the Universal Balance, he is Everyman.

Sutra 6: If your Path seems to be sprinkled with shards of glass, you should examine each shard to ensure it is not a diamond.

Ok...I need to get a pocket dictionary to carry in my purse with me. And apparently some world history/lit lessons. But it's a good piece.

Rachel, thank you for your comments.  My kids get at me all the time for my word usage.  My response to them has always been that our language is the only way we have to adequately communicate our thoughts and feelings.  I have always tried to utilise it to that end.
