There she was standing so long
I could see faces beyond tears
and words that distanced themselves
further into the apartments sitting upstairs.

The stare of a woman in black,
from across the rooms mirror-less tiles,
the stare of a soul that lived a life
unlike mine, yours, or a dozen walking beings

And beyond the stare and unfamiliarity,
our eyes translated into words
and I approached a bench right next to her purse

With my body leaning against the bar,
the spoken words of the people around us
dashed into the silence as we stared
longer and harder into each others eyes

And a fluorescent touch of of her hand
against my shoulders, like a nice evening sea,
two strangers.
