we were chasing our demons with mutual admiration
perhaps wanting to exchange them for more
or at least with each other on those sundays
after church when sinning could start over again

just in search of some other kind of heaven
where there was upright metal to hold us in position
while the world pressed against our faces
like the bosom of an insatiable lover doing temptation

and then hanging on to us for the ride of our lives
around curves that were not intended for freedom
and we would push back on what used to be painful
and take it all the way into our imagination slowly

I did it mostly to show you it was not so bad
and you did it mostly for me to hear your sounds
when you found how it fit to be almost holy
but were still close enough to say oh hell yes

when we let the metal inside the leather of our souls

for the meat

Some curves can't be broken either - you bring a gift with your poetry. Often taking me to a place that once was foreign, but is growing more familiar with each of your poems.
