Relentless winds sing shrill.
Spruce trees are dwarfed in twists
and towards the south they list.
Upon the windy hills
the air is never still.
It bathes the day in mist.

Smooth rocks, now wind-swept bones,
were brushed with silty sands;
then worn smooth ‘cross the lands
where ghosts of Mammoth roam.
In winds, they seek their home
and gather spectral bands.

Its needs can not be filled -
this wind that shrieks and trills.

Congrats on your fine Hex.

Alison, I can visualize and hear the mammoth ghosts thundering across the tundra!

You sure do know how to create an atmosphere!

Love 'n hugs,

Never heard of an hexonetta but I like the way you did it. It does create quite a picture in my mind.

Gave me a bit of a chill but that didn't detract from good poetry.  When I grow up I'm gonna write a Hexsonetta!

Lindsay,

I'll be very careful.  I hear that they have big old feet.

Love you,
Alison

Karou,

Thank you.  I am still working on the flow.  Lots of tears in the Poetry Workshop have been spilled as I learn and try to improve.

It's good to see you on the boards again.

Linda,

Thank you.  I can see them too.  It's fun to work with you in the PW.  It's a great place to be.

Ida,

I had never heard of it too, but I am glad that the visual was effective for you.

Shellie,

Thank you.  I am a fan of your poetry so you brought a smile to my face.

I wrote this as I was thinking about a drive I took about a week ago.  I went over a summit and the rocks were jutting out, so worn and smooth.  The trees are only like two feet tall and are stunted ... they are probably over a hundred years old.  It's amazing to think about this stuff -- and the wind was howling and blowing snow.  It truly is a barren (but beautiful) place.

Love,
Alison

-

Heather,

Thank you so much.  I am glad that you "felt" the poem.

Alison, this is unbelievably AMAZING! I loved it despite not having a clue what a Tors is.

Either the wind just touched my skin or your words touched my mind to bring a shiver. *S* And I'm sitting inside, so my vote's for the latter. *G*

A haunting presentation, dear Alison. ~ You know how to truly describe the chilly and beautiful aspects of Mother Nature, whom carries such an ability to place us all in a state of awe.

man, alaboo, you so baller I can hardly stand it.

I liked the first stanza especially.

I love my dog, and my truck. It's that simple, really.
