"Missing" Thoughts

I live each day without her now.
Recorded in my mind
are the secrets that we shared with each
before that awful find.

It's a birthday month for her and him.
October's harvest thoughts
remind me as I stand before
of the values we've been taught.

As sisters, both inside and out
I catch herself in me
when morning mirrored eyes stare back
and she is all I see.

I drive her car, presented now
since he has passed on, too.
And every time I find myself
remembering anew

All the fun we had back then,
the laughter and the tears,
when thinking of our childhood days
to hide our future fears...

So strong she was until the last.
And me, well holding on.
Today I'm thinking "missing" thoughts
since both of them are gone.

All that's left are memories,
those pictures in my mind.
And as I drive along life's road
I think of them in kind.
M

Awwww, this is sad. But, thank goodness for our memories, huh? I wish my sister and I had been close.

Both the closeness and the "missing" pain are deeply felt.

Beautifully rendered memories.

Even when our loved ones are gone, the love we share never ever dies.

Your tender thoughts are endearing, Maureen~

This is so beautiful but sad, Maureen. Touching for all of us who have lost someone dear.

When I have "Missing" Thoughts similar to these, I refer to them as "my misty watercolor memories".

Your grace-filled 'pen-brush' writes from a  palette of delicate ~ and especially beautiful ~ watercolors.

Warm memories to cherish...

It's always tough... anniversaries make the missing harder... and you have the double loss. Big hugs, my friend. Let those memories give you smiles as well as tears.

what beautiful words. I felt those shades of grief and sadness in my heart.
And you executed it beautifully.
Hugs and warmth for those "missing" days

M,

I came back because this poem is just that special.  There are links that can never be severed - and you share one with your sister.  I think of my brother when I read this because I miss him lots too.  You expressed your heart well - and I thank you for sharing this poem.
