Candles lit for the elements.
It is more plea than invocation.

Who here will laugh with the wind?
As the air grows thin.

Who here will feed passion's fire?
Against the cold of indifference.

Who here will drink from the stream?
And the poisons of the stone towers.

Who here will console the earth?
As we smother and rape her.

Will any man awake from his torpor?
To the incense of spirit?

No.

A knife of peace bears an image,
A forgotten goddess.
Somewhere in this night,
A man cuts a sobbing lover's throat.

Kneel to the north.
The music of the divine;
So distant now.

Fool is he who cries abandonment.
The shaman knows his spirit as weak.
For the fool ran to the concrete
To shelter from his own protectors,
When they asked their price.

My charges, my gods.

Salt and water I gave them
In joyful greeting.
Salt and water they gave me
In their farewell tears.

I really liked the last stanza..

Hello, Luke the Duke!

That is one mighty powerful "Circle of Sorrow". Regardless of the themes of your poems, they are all dynamic and engaging!

"Who here will console the earth?
As we smother and rape her."

~ We each should play a part in Her healing.

"Salt and water I gave them
In joyful greeting.
Salt and water they gave me
In their farewell tears."

~ Excellent closing to this fine piece of writing!

Love to you, my friend,
Linda
