Perched high
in the branches
of a cherry tree
I could watch
the logging trucks
come rolling down
South Pacific Highway,
piled high with logs.
I was too young then
to understand
that 40 years later,
when I returned
to the Northwest,
I would miss those trees.

Makes me sigh in sadness, dear Ida.

We can't stress this problem enough. I do hope that for every tree that is cut down, two new are planted, even if in another nearby place.

Thank you for your significant contribution with this powerful poem.

Love,
Margherita

My dear Ida Belle ~ I understand and I commisserate...

I love trees so much that it literally pains me when I see a tree cut down.
In my lifetime (this current one lol) I have lost many favourite trees and wooded areas cut down in the name of "progress".

Natural blights (i.e. beetle infestations of Dutch Elm disease) have also taken their toll. ~ For example, on the stately elms trees where I grew up in southern Ontario, Canada. It broke my heart when I revisited and saw the stumps where once stood those elegant shade trees that reached right up to the sky.

As is so often with your poetry, dear kindred spirit, I can relate.

I love trees....this makes me sad...

that is why we have so much flooding now,
cutting down all the trees...

Dear Ida I know exactly what you mean. when trees are a part of your life when you are

growing up, it hurts to see them cut down.
It destroys your mind picture of your youth.

It takes so many years for them to grow and it is a terrible shame when they are destroyed. A heart touching poem dear friend
