The Orchard

They called to her,
the whispering boughs of the orchard.
Each gnarled limb, laden
with sweet fertility.
Mocking her own, barren earth.
Nature's cruel intent.

Another yesterday.
Honey drenched days of childish innocence.
An infant's song.
Embraced within the
branches of an orchard.
Still marking time

A lover's glance.
A stolen moment in the lengthening shadow
Of an aging tree.
Their hurried tryst
severed by the symphony
of falling bombs.

On fragile roots.
Grief clenched hands, laid upon his marble name.
Her aching womb,
Her mothers' tide.
Mourning the loss of a life
That never was.

She sleeps there now,
In the orchard, beneath the final fruit
Of the dying trees.
Winter's lost shroud
Is granted new life, her
last gift, persists.

I literally got goosebumples as I read this sad, hauntingly beautiful poem.

Gorgeous writing ~ touching story...

I, too, felt every word.  I hope many more have read this than replied.  It's worth the time to read it and the time to write a few words in appreciation.
