I Wish I Could Have Been There
Posted by
Gunslinger
I wish I could have been there,
When it finally dawned on you-
This time I really meant it,
When I said that we were through.

The last time was the last time-
You would ever see me cry-
I wish I could have been there-
When you read the line, “Goodbye”!

I wish I could have been there-
When you came through our front door,
To see the scattered pictures-
Lying there upon the floor.

I wish I could have seen your face-
When you walked into the den-
And found my rigging missing
From the nail where it had been.

The same expression on your face-
I saw there long ago-
The day you made me take my pick-
‘Twixt you, or rodeo.

I wish I could have been there-
I think? but then again-
At least against a two ton bull-
I'd have a chance to WIN!

Once long ago, I walked into an abandoned cabin and their were wedding pictures strewn on the floor.  You took me back there - it's almost as if you walked out of the same cabin.

That's what your poetry does to me - it tells the story and paints the pictures in my mind.

This is so unlike your usual musings, and it dug down and hurt deep.  I think we have all been there at one time or another.  We move on, and somehow it all make sense eventually.  Well done!

That was like wow. Ouch. I agree, I think we've all been there.

Good to read your words, Gunslinger.
LOL, enjoyed the ending. To see another POV, it must be hard for the one who stays at home. For her, maybe it was a bit too much 'bull' to grapple?
