Forever In Your Heart

How did this happen?
maybe I should have,
could have,
answered the door,

Doing dishes, you could see,
me standing in my kitchen,
through my front room window,
you drove and parked in my drive,

You knew I was seeing someone,
a relationship I was comitted to,
you let me go, wanted me back,
as she came in, your friend,

I stood looking through the glass,
seeing your shadow figure in the car,
she asked me come outside,
to talk with you,

That it was important, very important,
twice you came, to my door,
but what was I to do?
I could not betray the one,

I was with, I am not that way,
the third time you came,
you brought a gift to the door,
my mother answered in the morning,

I was still in bed, it was cold,
but the sun was beautiful,
she brought the gift to me,
I opened the bouquet of purple flowers,

As I got up to go and thank you,
you were pulling out of the drive-way,
I watched as you drove out of sight,
little did I know that was the last time,

I would ever see you ever again,
years have passed, you have stayed with me,
I still have all the wonderful gifts,
most of all I still carry your love.

After all this time, I just found out,
why that night was so important,
what you wanted to tell me,
you had a ring and wanted to marry me,

Now after years of trying to find you,
I realize I never will, you were a one,
and a only, I look for you in them,
you are not there,

I now know and think of what may have been,
if I would have came out to you,
if we would have ran away together,
my life would have been so different,

You would have stayed and not got into that car,
we could have had second, third, fourth chances,
but life only gave me one,
and here I am one.

I sit with warm tears to comfort me,
as you lay in the darkness of a grave,
with no love, no arms to warm you,
as I am forever bound to the darkness of life.
