Requiem for a dream

***

Like a mirage our fountain of youth
was erased by a sudden gust of wind
and left me doubting my truth.

Your words of love and desire
flapped their broken wings
gathering motionless at my feet.

Silence reigned sovereign
as I questioned Universe
and launched my prayers
into the wide-eyed space.

So I decided to bury my dream
in the friendly shadows
of our very own cherry tree.

I offered a sweet requiem
with my voice of innocence
and put it to sleep in tear drenched soil
wrapped in a blanket of faith.

In Spring the shower of petals
will stir the ground to sigh
and my dream will stretch
its feelers high into the sky.

New life will sprout from its core,
our souls will merge anew
to make it bloom forevermore.

I just know this to be true.

I love these lines best

I offered a sweet requiem
with my voice of innocence
and put it to sleep in tear drenched soil
wrapped in a blanket of faith.

Oh how I know the feeling and the sudden creeping in of "who am I really, now that I am growing old?"

It can be so frightening, but bit by bit, the truth is revealed.

(sigh) Often in life, sometimes it is necessary for something to end in order for things to renew, as you described ever so strongly here! Indeed I believe that is true about the seasons, where "death" often gets a negative connotation stamped to it, and yet it is the decay of all organic matter in the autumn that provides the rich, biodiverse fertilizer that nourishes all life throughout the winter.............only to foment new life richer and more verdant than ever before in the spring! I believe this is no less truth for love as well! (does happy dance) This is beautiful, my friend, yay!

hello Margherita, this is kind of sadness, but you will overcome this as you beautifully expressed it, spring will vanquish automn and your thoughts will change, often we have to change out thoughts for going ahead...However your poem is outstanding and I had a very enjoyable read.

I like the last stanza about the rebirth.
I too know it to be true.
Nothing really truely dies it just changes form. It still exists in some different way.
I think it would be true to say your poem could be described by Oscar Wild's quote, "Simplicity is the last refuge of the complex."

Dear Margherita - How lovely to read and feel your words again.  As life was, as it became, and how it will be.  The "will be" will be as you believe it will be and of that I am also sure.  Wonderful, wonderful, write!
