Autumn's Awakening

As summer departs
--and fall rises from its slumber,
cool autumnal winds rustle
the dry, weathered cornfields.
Oaks and maples are a blaze
of gold, sienna and scarlet.
Loving memories of past Thanksgivings
fill me with joy as I recall gatherings
of family and friends and the wonderful aromas
of our home-cooked dinners of thankfulness.

This is a lovely write. The background is very tasteful.
We love autumn out here on the windswept plains of Nebraska where there are few people, and few trees.
Still automn is nice.
Great write!!!

GBride ~ Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, autumn is a very enjoyable time of year. All the colors and wonderful air. Also, when dismal clouds hover over, its time for quiet reflection!

That a young heart like you is able to have this kind of awareness of the beauty of autumn gifts is awesome, dear Michael.

Though in your life you are at the antipodes of fall, being in full Spring, your appreciation and poetic rendering of fall is simply exquisite!

Love and hugs.

I live in Scotland – a country where we go from summer to winter so very quickly!
But it is a pleasure to read this poem of another place: where there are ‘dry, weathered cornfields’ and ‘oaks and maples…a blaze’.

Many Thanks for this, and your kind comment on my own poem.

Innse Gall ~ Best wishes to you as well. The scenery in Scotland must be breathtaking. I've always wanted to go there, seeing that my background is mostly Scottish and Irish. Both places I've longed to visit.

Thank you for your kind words, I'm pleased you liked it!

Artic Wind - oh no, you mean autumn is that close, drats. I love autumn, but it then brings winter with all the snow, u'gghhh. Of course that Thanksgiving dinner does perk me up some...

(does happy cornucopia cha-cha) Oh my gosh, I just love how much this poem of yours brims with a flourish of color!

The leaves have yet to begin changing color here, but I know ever so well how lambent aspens and cedars can truly be during the autumn, as I have many fond memories running on the cross-country team with my fellow Denver Academy cross-country peers, and we'd go on these meets deep in the heart of Colorado's mountains, and I can recall visiting Georgetown in mid-October, for one, and I was just blown away at how golden the aspens there were. It was as though Quivira and Cíbola melted into an avalanche of liquid gold and spilled over the entire Rocky Mountains. I simply can't get over how starkly gold they were then, and that memory will never leave me!

This is magnificent, my friend, enjoy all the apple cider pressing and pumpkin pie baking bliss of autumn!

XOXO,
Noah Eaton

Thank you again!!!! Oh, don't get me started with the apple and pumpkin pies! ~ They are to die for. I absolutely love autumn cooking. It's one of my favorites, right beside Christmas. All the overwhelming (in a good way) aromas of pumpkin spice and christmas cooking. Absolutely lovely.
