My Apologies

I must offer a sincere apology
For those I ridiculed in my youth
I held disdain for the BenGay crowd
But now I know the truth

Being old is only a phrase
A number in chronology
In my youth it seemed ancient
But I’ve changed my ideology

The outer shell may wither some
The joints will creak and scream
Steps once buoyant now seem slow
To quickly run out of steam

I look at life from the other side
The over the hill side of things
Experienced and life worn,
Bearing what a long life brings

My step is cautious now
I worry that I could slip!
I wonder what I would do
If I fell and broke a hip?!

The eyes will never see 20/20 again
And the ears strain just to hear
You must not have much to say
Or I heard it all last year!

But I never forget to remember
Andremember so muchI forget
But then it blurs while I nap
Those thoughts that I regret

Over the hill might be old to you
But it’s just a number for me
I’ll never be old as long as I
Can still pen some poetry!

Some really great messages in here. I loved the first and last stanzas the most. Apologizing is just one of the very many ways for one to be happy and live without regrets. And of course everyone needs to write a little poetry here and then.

I hear ya!  Boy do I hear ya! Nice to see you here S.  Slipping is my worst nightmare but as long as I can get up this darn 90 degree hill I figure I have a bit longer.

You're a dynamic lady, and I will always feel honored that you took me into your confidence and under your wing--s.o.s. always.

This one was tight, lovie. A great job with the flow, but you never did falter with that.

Love you!

Apology accepted, o' ancient one! lol

I would have found this poem far more humorous if it didn't hit quite so close to home!

Egads! You too?!?

...My step is cautious now
I worry that I could slip!...

I am walking in the shadow of your words.

Thanks, Melton

Thank you all for reading! I was again reminded of my mortality when a dear friend had an brain aneurysm this week! Only 6 months after her hubby died of cancer. This is more lighthearted than the circumstances warranted but she got a kick out of it so it's all good.

Yo Poet deVine,

Life goes on until you die.  Never make fun of anyone.

This is well written, and arranged.

Poet deVine - been penning poetry for a while now and I've now retreated to the good age of 39. Yikes!!!
