.

Late August—

Old men are
Pulling jackets
From closets
Before they go
Outside

Just down
The street
The first oaks
Are beginning
To show a tinge
Of autumn orange
On their summer
Brows

Last night
We met again
I simply really
Don’t understand
Who or what
Must insist on you
Appearing so often
Regardless of space
And time

Even more now
Given how gaunt
And unwelcome
You are

Well
I suppose
Despite the fall
That’s just
The way
It always goes . . .
With dreams

Love the whole of it and this particularly:

quote:
Just down

The first oaks
Are beginning
To show a tinge
Of autumn orange
On their summer
Brows
