And so after a long hiatus, she looked out onto the water.
Her children were laughing and spraying water at each other
with squirt guns purchased at the local discount store in town.
Her face was smiling, laughing at those three in lost wonder.
She was not one of the women who hover over children,
directing each and every movement: correcting selfishness,
rewarding good behavior, punishing disobedience.
She was more interested in basking in the pleasure
of her intimate friendship with her three children.
They are her creations, yes I, the husband had
just a little to do with it: the lust part in the bedroom
And sometimes I took them to the zoo or circus
when there mom just wanted to stay home and sleep.
But mostly they are her creations, she carried them
for nine months and gave cigarettes all that time.
Oh, they have their secrets, they do not share with me.
When we get together for Christmas or Easter, and
I ask a question that should not have been asked.
Their eyes exchange messages of knowing, if
it were said outright and in front of all it would be,
“This is something grampa doesn't need to know.”
I agree and I am glad for it. Mystery is good.

A knowing unspoken, is oft
best heard in silence of the eyes,

wonderful poetry,

There is a mistake here. I ment to write she gave up cigarettes all that time. She did not smoke when carrying the children. I don't know how to correct this in the poem. I don't know how to edit it.

I understood what you were trying to say when I read it. It is probably past the editing time, so might I suggest that you click on one of the Moderators names at the top of the page and request that they make the edit for you.
