In some part of the World,
are these regions parts of that ?
Men believe so much in God
is this name good for that ?
that they forbid little girls
to go to school, sorry little girls
we love you except when you are clever
except when you are independant,
we love you but we don’t want you
to be a doctor, or a lawyer, or a politician,
so just sweep my house,
this is your kingdom forever.
and let us pray for nothing .
just pray little girls, just pray.

I read this on the other site, yann and was impressed by your keen understanding of the plight of girls in many countries, still today.

Yo Yann,

I always raised my girls to be tough as nails, and they are.  One is a retired U. S. Navy Petty Officer and mother, and the other is a marine biologist.

Dear Yanni,

You need to surprise yourself with your own thinking, not please other people with theirs, even if you agree with it.  Even if they are right.  This is the problem with political poems, the correct thing is not always the surprising or the transcendent thing.

Perhaps you might have a look at Easter 1916, where Yeats calls his political allies and the martyrs to his cause seriously pointed names, such as "Drunken, vainglorious lout."  He does this to his allies!  And it's part of what makes that marvelous poem work.

Your loyalty has to be to the poem, not the cause.  If the poem really works, it with help the cause, regardless.  The poem has to come first, not pleasing the people that it'd be nice to please.  Surprise yourself, Surprise yourself, surprise yourself.  Everything else follows.

All my best, Bob Kaven

I just watched "The Day My God Died" on Youtube last night, done by PBS, and it's so hard to believe that this type of oppression still exists in such modern times.

Your poem certainly will help bring awareness to their plight.  Well done!

My heart bleeds for those little girls. doesn't seem to be getting any better either in certain areas, rather the contrary.  Thank you for writing this poem Yann and sharing your compassionate heart.

Powerful in its deep awareness of injustice perpetrated against girls in many parts of the world.
Thank you for this, dear Yann.

Whenever I hear of how poorly girls are treated in some countries, I am eternally  grateful to have been born and raised in a country of equal opportunity and where women are encouraged to be all that they dare dream to be. (Mind you, even here, there can be some uphill battles for the 'fairer sex'.)

Love your compassionate heart, my Frenchie Friend!

This is sadly very true, Yann.  We must all do whatever little or much we can to turn this around.  It is not true that one person can't do anything to help.  We can start at least by including them in our powerpunch prayers, and then take every opportunity that arises to do something - or better still, make opportunities to do something.
