Death cries out
from a field of blood.
Bodies of the armies
are strewn
across the remnants of a battle.

Enemies lay side by side
in the truce of death.
Wounded men lay,
saying their last prayers
before the final sleep
claims them.

Friend and foe alike
cry out to God.
Asking for safety;
pleading for home;
begging for death.
Any release
from the Hell that is war.

Crows cry out,
ready to feast
on the men who protected you;
on the enemy who attacked you.
The crows don't care;
They don't know
the difference.

The stench of the dead
and dying
fills the air and chokes
the living.

Our soldiers lay
peaceful in their escape
from the terror
of war.

Enemies; friend and foe;
soldier and soldier
lay dying
on the battlefield

You paint the picture of disastrous war scenes so well, and so unnecessary all these tragedies are.  Very good capture of horrific pain and longings and everything going through the minds of those tortured souls.
