He held his hand
Like a father would to an only child
And divided his hair with
His strong stone fingers

His arm around his narrow shoulders
And the boy whimpered like a wolf
Caught between heaven and snow

So the father held him tighter
Let the air stay low and flow
Seamlessly steaming from his sons small mouth

And he felt the cold chill
Of Decembers mourn
And he saw a road he had never known

Nestled beyond the snow bank
Therein lay the branches he sought
For he and his boy

They limped across the dead road
Leaving their tracks
Across the buried snow.
