artwork by Janet K. Brennan

"Don't ask for miracles," he said
The fiery sun rising
over vine covered slopes
"Ceramic doves would do as well.
White Doves don't come
to Montecchia
Faith. . . trust in the mending
a grief rendered heart.

Don't ask for signs, redundant
Cliche' as a White Dove, worn
resting on a terrazzo gate, alabaster
Accept only the truth
White Doves won't come to Montecchia."

Blood red sun sets over the
sleepy Veneto
A flurry of ivory feathers, soft
Overwhelming the peaceful, twilight sky
Prayers not gone unheard
White Doves came to Montecchia!

(author's Comments:  The Doves of Montecchia was written about an event that happened while I was living in the beautiful village of Montecchia di Crosara, Italy. My oldest daughter had recently passed away, and I felt I needed a sign from God showing me that she was being well cared for. I asked for White Doves. The poem tells of a miracle. It is a true story, and has been published numerous times. I hope that all who read it know that miracles do happen, and that truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction.

Dear Janet, you have experienced a wonderful manifestation of divine spirit, when your heart was bleeding and you were in deep need of a proof that life goes on and that we continue to be connected on soul level.
This is truly uplifting for all those who doubt and for all those who have faith.
Your poem is reaching out so powerfully to touch our hearts.
Excellent! Wonderful artwork again!
Love,
Margherita

Thanks Margh:

Yes, what I exoerienced was a true miracle on every level, not only the healing of my mind, but body and spiritual beliefs, as I had none before that particular event.  The family mended as well, just living in that gorgeous but very primitive little village and when such strange things happened to us, I knew that I would have to write that story.  It took me almost ten years to write the book because I had written it in third person.  When I sent it to Tyndale, they wrote back recommending that I re-write in first person.  I did not know if I could because first person really hits home on the most personal level and some of the things that I wrote about were completely painful.

I actually suffered many of the physiscal pain while writing the book that I endured when it had actually happened to me.

Thank you for your kind response

Jan

You move me even more with your added note, dear Janet. Deep emotion is most certainly a main ingredient when we write, and I do believe as you say that while you relived the pain you contemporaneously enhanced the healing process.

I am curious about this book.

Love,
Margherita

I am a believer of doves, as heavenly signs, so I understand, why a poets looks out for them. I am sure that your departed angel sends them with sunshine spells.
