.

There we are

Made smaller
Than we were
Which even for
The best of us
Wasn’t much

How pathetic
We look

Now
We who had
No more clue
Than those
In previous years
And if one is honest
All too often less

What a waste
Of time it was
Which plenty of
Being young
Was all we had

It would have
Been better . . .
To have left
This book
With its past
On the dusty shelf

Today
It makes me
A little sad

John,

You'd be surprised how much going to high school meant to a lot of people.
