Like all practitioners
of his profession
Bones tends to lie a lot.

He just can’t help it.
He’s always telling lies.

He butters up his clients,
tells them he likes them,
and tells them they have
a lot of class.

When all along,
Bones knows
he hates them
with a hatred
that will never,
ever leave him.

Sometimes a client
will ask if it hurts.

Bones will tell them
no,
not at all.

It hurts like hell,
and Bones knows
they know it.

Bones doesn’t feel bad
about lying at all.

Everything about his life is a lie,
and that’s just the way it is.

Bobby

Bobby - perhaps Bones should move from the 'Hood' for a while. It may change his thoughts about lying...

Thanks Bill,

Bones will never leave the hood.  My big old German Short Haired Pointer dog Hilda must have heard what you typed in her sleep.  It gave her a nightmare.  No, Bones no longer has a need to leave the hood.  It would probably kill him if he did.

Besides, all writers lie.

Bobby - I've a nice big German Shepard -Timber Wolf named Dakota that would love to meet Hilda. They could get aquainted while we sit around and drink a cold one...

Sorry about giving Hilda a nightmare...

You really believe all writers lie? My...

Old Bones seems very much alive and humanlike in spite of his brittle condition):  I hope, for our sake, he never starts taking calcium supplements !

You have to do what makes you (and Hilda) happy.

Thanks Bill,

All dogs like to meet other dogs.  That's what they are into.  They are basically pack animals by nature.

Yes, all writers tell lies to some extent.  Bones really doesn't exist at all.

Dear, sweet Bobby,

I'm not entirely sure what Bones does for a living, but we all lie. Everybody lies some time. Even if it's lying by ommission or "little white lies" we all lie. And almost all of us are ok with it.

Thanks dear Arana,

Bones is a retired male prostitute.  He is also my completely imaginary alter ego.

I'm happy that lying is okay with you.  Even historians throw in a lie or two when they write.

Bobby - I'm crushed to find out Bones really doesn't exist... Oh my, oh my, I'll never be the same.

I spoke to Dakota and he said he would love to meet Hilda. Now she's real, right?

Thanks Bill,

Somehow, I think you'll get over Bones not being real.  Bones is a composite of two old friends, one alive and well, the other long dead.

Hilda is quite real.

Dear, sweet Bobby,

I know that Bones is your alter ego. But I like to think of him as his own entity. It's like reading a book and getting so enthralled with the characters that you attempt to put yourself in the place of one of them. I like reading about Bones so much because he makes me feel...well, a wide variety of things. Mostly, he reminds me that even those who are worse off than myself know others who are worse off than themselves, and so on and so forth, and it gives me a sense that it's ok to be proud of what I have, even if it isn't much. If Bones can be proud of what he has, then I should be proud of what I have. Does that make any sense?

Thanks dear Arana,

It always makes sense to be proud of who, and what you are.  That's all part of the self preservation thing that keeps us all alive.

I don't believe that any of Bones lies were told with the intention of hurting anyone.

Thanks WindWalker,

I think what you say is true.  You can say that Bones is a composite of all of us.

Thanks dear Linda,

You are correct.  Bones never lied to hurt anyone.  There would be no money in that.

Hello Bobby, I understand Bones very well, while working we are not ourselves anymore and some offensive sentiments make you feel better...thanks for the frank poem.

Thanks Yann,

Bones is always polite, and good at hiding his true feelings.
