She can be a moody goddess
Not easily restrained
Her grace much the same way,
Not easily obtained
And her beauty, like formless water
Can never be contained

The raging waves and sometimes
Her mirror-like calm face
Speak volumes of the nature of
Her testament to patience and haste
And the way she drowns me deep within
Leaving nigh of a trace

By her whims I take my leave
Allowed to live or die
O, but to explore her fathom reaches
Where her dark secrets lie
I knew that I were to be held spellbound
From the first I heard a seagull cry

Though far from her restless shores
With no sail to catch a salty breeze,
Not even one mariner left to brave the storm
And no ship to carry me
Know that the Earth could no longer hold,
My longing for the sea

Ah yes I can understand your fascination of the sea, I have always been.  But she can be both cruel and blissful, just like humans.  This is quite the wonderful poem Chalmette and you have some great rhymes there.

My heart finds this poem so totally captivating I find myself hearing the shore birds calling me home. The sea is such a lifelong part of me, I cannot stay away from the magical spell she has on me.

Such beautiful, intense longing! Her vastness is daunting and fascinating yes.
Reading you here brought a temporary refreshing breeze.

Love,
Margherita

Thanks all.

katriona...that's what I tried in this poem, to be able to be taken as the sea or as about a person.

midnite...hope you get to answer the sea's call and with it, find your peace very soon.

Nakd...one of my best? Really?

Margherita...glad you caught the breeze.
