There is wisdom gained by suffering
From decaying minds knowledge grows
In darkness creeping ever through him
Lost in those final death throes
Victory is certain, rest assured
The conqueror stands before his eyes
A lady all in black as the night she came
Among the ruins of ghostly cries
Once proud were the battlements
With banners defiantly displayed
Strength in resolve of one so absolute
Through which she easily strayed
There were memories that lay scattered
Valiant soldiers felled one by one
Their might in arms broken asunder
Fighting and fighting until there were none
He alone, now standing upon the debris
By a doom as a heavy burden he bore
For some far greater importance
Than things such as forevermore
She moved purposeful through the ruins
Of what was once held so strong
And he dared to catch her eye
In a time that felt like it took so long
Her dark hair and pale face were familiar
And she walked like she ruled this place
But as she got closer he could see
There a smile mixed with tears on her face
And those eyes held him mesmerized
Then woken from the spell, shaken and all alone
He beheld where the ruined walls once met
There remained standing, a single cornerstone

An impressive write. Haunting in its intensity.

~love this:

There were memories that lay scattered
Valiant soldiers felled one by one
Their might in arms broken asunder
Fighting and fighting until there were none

~and this:

Her dark hair and pale face were familiar
And she walked like she ruled this place
But as she got closer he could see
There a smile mixed with tears on her face
