Don't tell me your dreams now,
don't ask me to share how
I see through darkness
to seas that drown your soul;
I am old and burning lifelines,
I've been yearning foolishly
to return
to the hearth I knew grown cold,
no memories belong there
no oaths to foreswear,
the old pile's just empty rooms
with galling iron on the doors;
don't ask if you don't know,
don't sing when the winds blow,
dust scars in my eyes show
it never was gentility
to bring children
to a time that buried hope;
embracing heresy
shunning destiny
I turned the key in memories
turned my back and I went free
from bloody rope and the hanging tree
but locks are made for honesty
to teach the world what isn't free;
tracks fading in the sand.

This has given me much to think about as your poems always do, Mr. Ice.

Your poetic power is reaching out and touches me with deep emotions.

In times that bury hope, children represent hope themselves, I believe.

Good morning, dear Box of Ice!
Sleep well?

"I see through darkness"
~ So it would appear!  ~ and quite well at that! Wow!

"I am old and burning lifelines"
~ Great line! Hmm, I never thought of it that way ~ but now that I think about it...

"I turned the key in memories
turned my back and I went free"
~ Now if only we all could do that!

The entire poem is noteworthy!

This is dark with shades of blue and gray~
But I enjoyed your thoughts very much.
The last couple lines made for a perfect ending.
You don't ever mix your words, and their starkness is stunning.

Oh, this captured my mind tonight, dear C.
Profound words as always from your pen.
