A Poets bane

A humble face worn from secrets,
Thoughts born of loss and suffering,
Alone, with a desk lamp,
His heart seeks beauty and truth.

With eyes that are forever open
to the past and its pain,
he relives his sorrows,
his dreams and failures.

There at his desk with nothing but
the moon and his memories,
he faces it all once again.
He holds it in until the words come
and his heart says its ready.

Then he breathes it into life for you,
pours it onto the page.
He shares his images with you,
his very soul with you,
for that is what he does,
what he is.

A poet

Ah yes, it is the very breath within the words that are served upon a banquet table of imagery and soul.  Liked this.

SAVED

You are clearly speaking from your soul, dear Poet.

Yes, that is what being a poet means to me. You have poetically and accurately, put into words what my thoughts are as well.

Loved it!

Certainly this is one aspect of being a poet, yes, dear Tim. But I don't see it as a bane (did not know that word, checked it).

I see it as a gift. And you use it beautifully.

Love,
Margherita

I don't know how I missed this excellent poem, Yoinn, won't make that mistake again.

The wounded brave would shut off his lamp
and stand outside if only to adore the moon.

"His heart seeks beauty and truth"

Soulman, "In the beginning was the word,"

it is there that we find our dreams, too, as thoughts find their niche in heart and mind. In fact, oh where would we be without it?  The beauty of sharing...

Yoinn,

You are another poet here that I seek out.  I enjoy reading your words and sharing the thoughts that you generously offer us.

True words, and this is often how we picture the poet of olden days, sitting alone at his desk by the light of a candle writing his heart away, perhaps not so different today although the quill will have been replaced by a computer ? A very nice poem and a pleasure to read.

i love this

and i understand the bane...the uncontrollable gnawings of poem pieces that must be jotted down while driving so they are not lost...the depth of feeling felt by the poet...the need to get the words just right...

i use a pencil with eraser, yo...i like for the process to be as neat as possible...there's something personal to me to see the words written on paper...

thank you poet

love,
berney
