‘Nothing matters,
nothing else matters’
He tried to tell himself
‘Doesn’t matter,
doesn’t even matter’
Tries to sell himself
But he cannot change truth
As much as return to youth

The fire has dimmed
Down to shadows of remember
And the ashes barely glow,
Their heat about to silence forever
No more fuel upon the hearth
And his embers all fading to grey
Waiting for the flue to open again
To watch his ashes be blown away

‘Something remains,
somehow, something remains’
He tells himself
‘It should remain,
it just must remain’
Affirming to himself
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
Is life in the end, he remembers,
Yet life still exists wherever
There’s a spark left within the embers

Yes indeed   Your poem has a mournful tinge to it but hope prevails in the end.
I especially loved your rhymes in this one.

Beautifully rendered melancholy, dear J.!

Something remains, yes, something transforms. There is continuity on soul level.

Love,

As long as there is a spark....there is hope...
