The bay is a bowl of midnight blue
Here where I stand entranced by the view
Under dreamy skies the timeless sea
Stretches far beyond infinity
Serene and calm, no hint of green
Smooth as silk with translucent sheen

So tranquil it is where wavelets flow
Over the shores, murmuring low
While curling smoke trails silver grey
Pencil horizons a world away
There phantom ships mystical as night
Float gently into the dim twilight

Rippling blue as far as I see
Yet when the moon’s luminosity
Caresses the surface where wavelets go
Sparkling diamonds on the waters glow
To the shimmer of moonbeams on a silver sea
Oh, how beautiful the ocean can be...

Heart2Heart - I love lighthouses, and this picture is just beautiful along with the writing. Also, I love the ocean, could sit for hours just looking out at it...

Thanks Bill.  You echo my thoughts, I love lighthouses myself, am fascinated by them.  I've only been to the US twice in my life, but the first time (in 2004) I went for a holiday in Maine and did the grand tour of so many lighthouses.  My dream is to buy an old and derelict lighthouse and renovate it, can't be too far away from civilisation though   There are many for sale where I am, and if you like the lonely life, this is ideal of course.  Thanks again for the comment.

Your words move smooth and silky across the eyes, and the brain reading you H.
Here's to you and your lighthouse one day. Cheers.

I'm entranced!  Even without the picture, I can feel the mystic movement of sea in these lines... there is nothing else like it in moonlit magic.  Gorgeous penning.

I could read your poetry forever more. It makes me feel good! Truly! It's peaceful ~ and gorgeous! Ah.....

My goodness! This beautiful new photo of yours gives me goosebumples! You look like my paternal grandmother (Viola Evangeline of Scottish ancestory) when she was a young woman! My word! It's uncanny!

You ache me for the ocean...

Haven't touched it in 9 years. Thank you for taking me there.

I especially LOVE this line:

"shimmer of moonbeams on a silver sea"

'tis not a better place for grand imaging in
all the world then the land of Gàidhlig !

Dreamlike, captivating and very refined poem, dear Katriona.

Soothing words like serene waves lapping rhytmically at the shore ...

Love,
Margherita

I was born in the mountains of Utah and didn't see the ocean until I was a grown up, I remember how thrilled I was the first time I saw it.  You are soooo lucky to be able to see it oftan.  Love your poem

Dear friends, I am overwhelmed at the lovely responses I received for this poem, thank you so much.  By the way, if you are wondering where the beautiful picture is from, this is Cardiff Bay in Wales
