Oh to live forever under stately oaks
A breath of autumn in the air
Treading paths many have traveled
And touching the history there
Sights, sounds and heavenly smells
Senses overloaded, heartbeat overkill
Re-living youth spent wildly
Losing yourself in the childhood thrill
Many memories of a father and son
Treasured images in mind’s eye keep
Above all, marking all that passes,
The sad Spanish moss weeps
Feel the earth upon the hills
What mysteries they may contain
Let the lake waters soothe
And in its voices hear all explained
No other place rivals here in majesty
A heaven amongst mortal sight
I vow to be a ghost when I die
And haunt here every autumn Saturday night

There is a serene graveyard I used to 'haunt' regularly.
Most people thought I was a wee bit spooky, especially because of my 'spirit' conversations.

Guess you just might understand?

You have your oaks, I have my linden trees. You just succeeded in transporting me there with your most enthralling poem.

Ghosts? Yes, why not, but meanwhile I go there in recurrent dreams ...

Beautiful!

Love,
Margherita

Oh this one just smells of moss, mushrooms, wet and sodden leaves and autumn trees.  You picture my favourite season so well, because the contrasts of dismal gloominess and beautiful colours are all contained in those months.  A grand job with this poem Chalmette.
