CONDUCTOR
9 July 2009

I was spellbound
by the graceful arc
of his arm
and the precision
of his movement.
Did he train in Vienna?

I longed to hear the woodwinds
awakened by the white glove

pointed

but
reluctantly
I drove on,
otherwise
the cars behind me
would have honked,

and the pointsman
would have directed
his traffic officer precision
and ire
at me.

Wow, I love this, dear Diana! They are rare here nowadays. One survives in Piazza Venezia and when I happen to walk by, I am fascinated and watch for quite a while. Yes those arms and hands are pure grace.
Delightful snapshot of your day, thank you for sharing it with us, Poetess.

Love and hugs.

What a snapshot...from the streets into the orchestra of the almight wizard of sounds...

Directional confrontation on all fronts...

well done, my friend!

A really wonderful piece of poetry, I enjoyed reading this.
I see you are from South Africa, I spent five years in Saaiplaas, Welcom working in the gold mines and before that visiting Durban and Cape Town when I crewed on the Union Castle Line, I loved Durban and the wonderful people and made a lot of friends there.

Thank you, Kacy.  Glad you thought so!

Thank you, Ida.  Yes, people without poetry in their soul sometimes find my thoughts very strange, so it’s good to be here amongst all of you poets who understand.

Thank you, Margherita.  Here, our robots (traffic lights in the UK and the USA – I don’t know what the English translation of the Italian would be) are forever not working, so we have to have a lot of them.  Not all of our pointsmen and pointswomen inspire me to feel this way, but I reallllllllllllly enjoy it when I find one that does.

Thank you, Karilea for your beautiful poetic compliments.

Thank you, Kushal.  I find poetry all around me every day – some of it beautiful and happy, some of it harsh and upsetting, but the beauty, happiness and peace always rises above the rest.

Thank you, Helen.  I am glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you, Yann, for your kind words.  In my opinion, you, very especially, would have thought so, if you had seen that particular pointsman!

Thank you, Johan for enjoying my poem, and even more for enjoying my city and my country.  I will reply to your email when I have the aftermath of my burglary behind me.

Thank you, Linda.  I am glad you enjoyed my “phoetry”.

Thank you, Bill.  I am glad you did.

Dear Diana, I do hope "the aftermath of your burglary" will quickly fade and restore your serenity.
You are in my thoughts.
Love and hugs.
