Up Close Miles Away

don’t be concerned
I don’t want anything
and it’s not so much
that I have missed out
lately I just miss myself
you are just a shadow
in the stirring gray silence
a tickling tip of tongue
spur of the moment
a word unspoken
desperate fading dream
your walls are safe with me
not trying to break any down
not even knocking on your door
just looking in the windows
I could have said more
peeled back the darkness
another road not taken
walking by the could have been
but it still makes me want
to know more about you, just
to look behind the curtains
past the thin glass walls
that I can barely see into
to where you are hidden
scared of up close miles away

"I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad."
— Joni Mitchell

A very fine piece of introspective writing.

After a while, I become a bit complacent in my absence... and then I peek in and read something like this... and know I have to make poetry a priority again... SOON! *S*

... if only to be jealous of your pen... *G*

I really admire your ability to write your heart out with such apparent ease.  Wow!!

...and me - always loved the words you paint,
the soul that concieved them, and the heart that gave them life . . . ever since the first time I saw you standing in a black dress, shin deep in the surf...a water nymph almost hidden in the night...

and still...I love them all - the sea, the nymph, the long back dress, the soul and heart that made/make the words dance across the page, and the words, especially the words from the one who gave them light and sustanance in which the rest of us bask - you, my friend, called 1Slick, a very proper term. . . of endearment.

me...

Yo dear Helen,

This poem works very well.  It's almost frightening.  I like it.

Love Bobby

"lately I just miss myself"

I feel this way right now.

I love your work.
