Listening to every heart

Before it’s over…

Such a lovely bequest this is,
a large enough albeit magical frame
to hold photos…technology
and light…sparking memories with a
random roll by way of things
I can’t grasp other than it’s programmed,
but they roll on, regardless.

I smile at memories of a young lady
who sits on a special bench, her bench,
caught in time between Y limbs
of a young tree growing old in October…
an extraordinary moment of light
and expression, a smile unconditional…

oh but wait! There’s Robert; and my sister…
mother, father, and Grandmother…and there they are,
our friends of several decades, my aunts, uncles,
relatives of our internal poetry, our loves…

so far there are less than 300 everlasting
memories that others can now share,
perhaps even smile along with, while snow white
peacocks emerge along grassy lawns,
where parrots perpetually shine in Jamaican colors
of orange and green against grand backgrounds
of beloved books;

just think…this magical, marvelous wonder
that might hold 3,000 memories…
just in time before a possible, probable omygod
onslaught of Alzheimers. So I plan ahead.

Maybe, perchance, I’ll smile while in some
nether world because what was, will again be colorful,
having as its nesting place a calm where
people smile back as long as electricity lasts.

Maybe, perhaps, I will smile back,
before it’s over.

I think you have made and are living in the perfect frame. One that holds 63,659 entries since you created it. Perfection in Perspective...

A write that hits home for so many baby boomers and their grown children.

Dear Karilea, you have been missed, how I love to read you!

This was very captivating and cute. ... as long as electricity lasts ... just so. But then they will finally use some other longer lasting energy ... SUNSHINE!

Sissie...so many memories stored in the photos of the heart and right here on the blue pages, in a park on a bench.

Sunshine,

A very lovely rendering that will go straight to my library.  I, too, have a few colorful pictures of a lovely day spent with a friend in Kansas!

It would be nice to cast all of our pictures onto a screen, as long as the electricity doesn't go out!  I think you compared that to Alzheimer's in the poem.  My opinion is that in Alzheimer's Disease, a person may be appear to lose all those wonderful memories or thoughts, but rather, those most sacred visions are protected in the heart down to the last beat, perhaps translated in a different language than we are used to.  I'm reminded of one of my dearest friends who could never, and I mean NEVER, remember my name, yet she felt/knew my insides out intuitively, through her heart.  That's what I think, or at least, hope what happens to Alzheimer victims.

Again, what a beautiful poem you've written!

Hugs,

misce'

Yo dear Sunshine,

Old photographs can do that for a person.  They bring back so many mementoes that are worth keeping, and sharing.

You did good work on this poem.

...so many boxes we find ourselves in, some with colored windows, so that some of life is view in rose, some in blue, and oh the greens!  but the magic unfolds in the sunlight of love, and we want to remember it in more than mind, that part of the heart which glows incalescently, incessantly, with the warmth of our days.

How natural for a poet to want to leave that legacy for discerning eyes--"in moments or lifetimes" (Richard Bach). And heart.

Pensive and lovely reading.

Very much enjoyed this. All my pictures are framed in my head and when/if the electricty falters/fails ... I don't have a battery backup and recalling them... well, I'll not know they're lost, will I.

Very thoughtful write, my friend.
