The copper flames of setting sun
Throw sharply in relief
The stealthiness of tawny owl
A vision all too brief

Then drifting by horizon's edge
Thus wanes the last, faint rays
And darkness makes its swift descent
To banish trace of day

The tawny owl is hunting now
And silently swoops by
Intent upon nocturnal prey
With sudden, hooting cry

The waning moon plays hide and seek
With clouds around the hill
As silver claw and golden eye
Bolt down to make their kill

Then chariot stars on velvet black
Though distant spheres of light
Restore enchantment to the scene
And beauty to the night

Thanks m'dear.  I've used this picture in another poem, so I'm changing it.  In fact I'm quite taken by owls, they are fascinating creatures.  Where I live we have all sorts of wildlife, foxes, badgers, otters and even beavers. The other night I heard  the most terrible cries of distress, and it was a fox in a fight with the local stray tom cat :-)  I'm afraid old tom lost the battle...

"..chariot stars.." Oh how descriptively delicious phrases you turn, Lassie of the North!

Oh, the night holds such hair raising sounds! Beautiful, how you succeed in balancing the magic of the night with the struggles for food that take place, where there is always one who must surrender ...

Yes, the owls are beautiful!

Love,

Hello H2H, a wonderful atmosphere, things at night are stupendous and you illustrate it with savoir faire and richness of images, I could feel the owl in the night as if I was there...a very enjoyable write.
