When the last petal has fallen
From the red rose and the white
The garden chairs and croquet nets
Are stored away out of sight

How lovely to welcome Autumn
As she drifts through the misty air
With a crown of Chrysanthemum flowers
Adorning her auburn-bright hair

When summer's sweet beauty is over
And nights grow dark and cold
Then, in her flaming colours
Of amethyst, scarlet and gold

She touches the meadows and valleys
Igniting the beech and the oak
Trees all aflame along mountains
A fire without the smoke

With her garlands of topaz and rubies
And her smoky, purple gaze
Gentle yet spellbinding Autumn
Walks through the woodland ways

We might yearn for Summer sunshine
Wild flowers and grasses that grow
Long for those precious days gone by
And all of the joys that we know

But I will sing Autumn's praises
As leaves come fluttering down
And welcome our Autumn lady
With her Chrysanthemum-daisy crown

This is one of your really great pieces that I think I remember from another time Katriona, each stanza a joy to read.

Autumn is also my favorite season, and you weave her beautifully.

You portray "Lady Autumn" majestically and in all of her finery.

Her beauty is a force to be admired and embraced ~ as are you and your quill, Lady Katriona.

Love & Lovely Ladies!

Nobody but nobody puts nature in such a beautiful perspective than you, Katriona.

You painted her so well, dear Katriona, that I can feel a fresh breeze in midst of the tremendous heat of the now ... such an intensely beautiful feeling of anticipation.

Yes, you and nature have a pact of deep understanding and intense vibes of communication!

Love,
Margherita

Heart to Heart - Whenever the reader has been grabbed by the images, then you know it's the lunge of visual impact leaping from the poem as is demonstrated here. Love your craftsmanship. Namyh

Beautiful write, and this was my favorite:

"She touches the meadows and valleys
Igniting the beech and the oak
Trees all aflame along mountains
A fire without the smoke"

Margherita, thanks m'dear.  We have had such extremely warm weather here, more than 30 degrees C every day, that it's a relief to be into a cooler spell now.  I'm not too fond of very hot temperatures myself.

Autumn is my favorite time of year. Here in So. Calif. the summers are hot and we usually have wild fires, I am always happy to see autumn arrive.

VERY well done ... grand-fine imagery!

I am especially fond of:

"How lovely to welcome Autumn
As she drifts through the misty air
With a crown of Chrysanthemum flowers
  Adorning her auburn-bright hair

When summer's sweet beauty is over
And nights grow dark and cold
  Then, in her flaming colours
  Of amethyst, scarlet and gold

She touches the meadows and valleys
Igniting the beech and the oak
  Trees all aflame along mountains
  A fire without the smoke"

[this 'write' made me remember (most fondly)
Sept. in Glencoe and Na Trosaichean]

serious and long-sustained applause for this fine 'penning' !!
