What is your legacy, dear Michael?
Is it the echo of a courtroom
or is it the eccentricity of your ways?

I do not know the answer

I am not competent to make a judgment on your life
as is the Judge in Heaven

But if you have brought the world together
Whether to mourn or to rejoice
You have done more than any president or czar or dictator
Or any ruler from any mold in the history of mankind.

Your diplomacy is in the shuffle of your feet
And your compassion in the softness of your  voice

You dance to a universal rhythm
And cry the tears of universal pain
Your black and white world crosses all boundaries and barriers
Of race and religion
And your body that balances on an invisible thread
Speaks the same language that is spoken in Africa and Asia and America

You engage in no war and yet rise victorious
Wielding weapons of music and moonwalks
Shaking hands with the oppressed and with the elite
But looking at all of them through the same Peter Pan eyes.

Oh, if we could only harness your energy to climb up out of the pits of degredation, depression and poverty!

What am I saying?

You are gone and can no longer dance

and besides, you are being scoffed and ridiculed as well as being praised and eulogized.

And so I ask you, Michael, what is your legacy?
I do not know the answer

But it is a quite remarkable thing
that somehow

you have brought the world together

If anyone has any questions of who he was or is...watch these on youtube.com....there are 9 or ten of them.....and get the real TRUTH!

Thanks Elizabeth for your kind poem about him....He was a kind and loving soul....and misunderstood..used, and if you view the interview series I have posted you can see how the media cuts and slices, edits stories, not telling the real truth, but what they want you to hear...no wonder he didn't trust anyone! I wouldn't either! this series sets the stories and the rumors straight...by his (michaels own words)

quote:
And so I ask you, Michael, what is your legacy?

It's a warning.  A warning of how extreme talent can lead to extreme financial wealth, and how extreme financial wealth can destroy perspective.

A good poem.

He has indeed brought this world together!  The destructive side of Michael Jackson at this time is really not worth considering to me, as I will remember other things about him.  Things like the love and talent he shared with the world, and took a lot of flack for.  His donations to charity, and the many children he allowed to escape from their real world, sometime of horror, and just let them to be children, if even for a day.  His ability to make the entire world of music change, along with dance steps for generations to come.  He certainly gave the world way more than he took, and that to me is fulfilling your role here on earth.  He is one of a few that were given a gift at birth that we all enjoyed, and some destroyed, but his legacy will live on just like Elvis and for the same reason.  He had a God-given talent he shared, and dearly paid for.  His legacy to me is just "love" of music, of children, of dance, and the people of this world. May he finally be at peace.

Lizzie, you are a sweetheart.

Carpe' Diem,
Mysteria

A poem not meant to evoke so much thought, but evidently it does, and I am thankful for your expression of your thoughts. I have been engaged by the worldwide outpouring of emotion towards a man called "the greatest entertainer of the millenuium." I don't know MJ on a personal level, so I cannot comment. I can only say that he had an enormous talent and an enormous heart. I recognize the good in his life, and that's what I celebrate.
Thank you for reading and commenting, dear friends. I appreciate it
Liz

Fine writing...I tend to look at all sides of an issue not merely to praise and criticize but to know the truth...we know to what extent his music personally touched us or not, but only the victims, if the words they spoke were true, know what did or didn't happen to them...a legacy can be different things to different people...James

Distance and time will tell what his legacy will be.
He was an amazing artist, singer, dancer, choreographer, all wrapped up in the original Peter Pan mindset.
I cringe at all the hateful things people have said and written about him, having never believed any of the trash talk or lies.
Michael was unique, not a freak.
I miss him.

Thanks for this beautiful post.

Just having watched the Staples Center Memorial Service for Michael Jackson, I can concur that he is not going to be forgotten for a very, very long time.  Berry Gordon I think said it all, he was indeed the greatest entertainer of all time.

It was a deeply moving ceremony, indeed
and now, his music is being heralded and purchased like crazy all over the world
HId legacy has become quite clear

Thank you Liz - Your own heart might just rival Michael Jackson's - just in a quieter way.  This is a lovely tribute, dear lady..
