I've crossed the trackless wastes of space-
And surfed a hundreds suns-
And countless more I'll know, forget-
Before my race is run.

I've walked the lonely city streets-
Which once with laughter rang...
Now lay in death, forgotten...
And I find it passing strange.

I've seen a sun go Nova,
Another just go dead...
And ice age come, and ice age go...
And worlds which shook in dread.

I once knew Merlyn, wicked thing-
His sword stuck in the stone...
And Arthur, young and foolish king
Now both of them are gone.

And Robin? and his merry men?
Hah! thieves, and worse than thieves,
The way that hist'ry gilds their names
My heart it fairly grieves.

I know where mermaids swim and play-
The little people dwell-
The Flying Dutchman's ghostly wake...
Aye, mate, I know it well.

If I had but a century,
To sit, I might avail...
To shed a bit of light on it...
And spin my Traveler's Tale.
