‘tis the silence of the night
and the din of broad daylight
that spins like lottery tickets
in the flow of normal life.

Round and round, up and down,
and this flow like living cycles
that leaves a gambler waiting
palm up for destiny.

First prize gone, second, third,
and the gambler makes a fist
in stark disregard
for what may follow next
and so what could have been
slips from gamblers to the floor.

There the prize that could have been
joins the junk of what is now
and the gambler in the midst thereof
unable to see the sun
or the beauty of the night.

‘tis in this gap of destiny
that gamblers stand uncloaked
and listen to the sweet refrains
of the plain and simple nothing.

The plain and simple nothing
no prelude to a ball
but gamblers know to listen
until thought bursts forth and motivates
a new mind reality!

How precise your interpretation here! Dear Helen, you always amaze me with your depth and sharp poetic rendering.

The mindset is so clear and perhaps all too real.

Good job, good message, honeyb~

Hi, Honey! I do believe that there is a bit of a gambler in each of us. I for one know that I can take a chance on life ~ but not in the casinos! (For a birthday present I was once taken by a friend to a casino and was given a fairly large sum of money to gamble. Well, I went through it all and then my grocery money for the next two weeks!!! I kept thinking the next "pull" would recoup my losses! )

Your poetry always gives me points to ponder.

Love 'n a hug,
Linda

Thanks everyone for your kind replies.  I will be in the "gap of destiny" for the next little while but I must admit to being quite excited at what I might hear when listening to that "plain and simple nothing".  I will be back!

Yes it tells a story dear Helen.
Gambling has ruined so many lives as well

as marriages. It is a terrible thing to become addicted to it. Great post. love

I love a game of Texas Holdem, but not for real money, I have won plenty of credits, but if I used real money I would not be so lucky, nice piece of writing my friend, enjoyed it.

I gambled once and won on a visit to Las Vegas to meet Victoria at the time. You just have to know when to stop ( and that was after that first win because it was the visit and friendship I came for, not the money)

Hope you are doing well~~
