Traveling up the coast to Canada we saw a very similar scene up near the Oregon boarder. My granddaughter was with us, she was 7 and was quite amazed for she had never seen anytjing like it.

Alison, I just know that you wouldn't have posted this about these precious darlings, if the story didn't end happily.  I am right, aren't I?

yann,

Thank you so much.

Alison

Margherita,

Thank you.  That offering (like most of mine) just fell in my lap - I just grab the camera when they come along.

Ida,

Isn't it wonderful seeing nature with children.  It makes the sight all so much more incredible.

Thank you lots, Alanor.

Diana,

I thought of you when I put this one together.  I thought of you as I was taking the pictures.

Yes, it ended just fine.  When the second little one just stood there, she turned and came out of the water with the first little one scampering ahead of her.

Moose mama's test their babies to see what they are ready for.  One was kind of ready to cross and one wasn't ready at all.  No way.  No how.

Love you,
Alison

Oh, thank goodness for that, Alison (and thank you for your quick response, and setting my mind at ease)!  What sweet mamas Moose mamas are!  And so clever and comforting and considerate!  Now we just need excellent news about Rowdy the day after tomorrow.  I will be looking out for the good news and will be praying powerpunch prayers for him in the meantime!

Smiling at this, it brings back some fond memories! Thanks fot the photo, the poem, and the reply to Diana! Moosemoms are cool.
LOL at DS, and remembering all the moose nugget jewelry sold to the tourists.
My dad always called Budweiser beer moosepiss. My Bud drinking brother-in-law retaliated, calling dad's Olympia by the same nickname. I always thought they were both pissy tasting, and preferred either St Pauli Girl, Tecate with lime (and tequila) or micro-brewery specials!

Alison, I love how you capture the raw, natural beauty of Alaska and its wildlife with your photography and your poetry!

I love moose. Every now and then we have one in our yard or see it walking down our street! Did you take this picture? It's a great picture and great words to match!

Diana,

So sorry it has taken me a long time to come back to this - Moose Mama's are fierce in their protection.  It was fun to watch her in action.

I have always loved to watch Moose.  I have a feeling that I'll see this family again this winter - eating my trees.  They are welcome to what they can find.
