What is it to lumber through life?
To be numbed by mundane strife,
making the motions unaware,
thoughtless and heedless,
each moment passing swiftly into the next
with barely a moment for care.
Always it's the next moment,
the next task,
like a bee from flower to flower,
the many become one
till nothing gets done.
Perhaps it is the motion which defines us,
hearts beating without heart,
no time left for thinking or feeling.
Only doing is left, only living in part.

But you did take the time to write this thought provoking poem and that's a good sign. It means that you won the battle and live in full awareness.

Welcome to Pip, dear Alan!

Alanor,

I agree with moonbeam - thought provking poem with a good title.

quote:
Always it's the next moment,
the next task,
like a bee from flower to flower,
the many become one
till nothing gets done.

It sure seems like nothing gets done sometimes, doesn't it.  Maybe it gets done and more just takes its place .. like soldiers advancing into battle.

Marching chores - that's what I have.

Welcome to PiP.

quite interesting and thoughtful...I don't think we define ourselves only in motion, there are a lot of implications to build heart and mind ....Let's try to get harmony...Thanks for the thought provoking poem.

Thank you all for the warm welcome

Apologies for taking so long to reply, but I posted late last night and, well, it's been a long day. But I'm glad I've found this forum, great place for sharing our thoughts!

welcome to PiP...insightful (& may I say, "poetic")

...found these lines fascinating:

"Perhaps it is the motion which defines us,
hearts beating without heart,
no time left for thinking or feeling.
Only doing is left, only living in part."

Thanks for the kind words

It's so easy for life to become just a series of tasks - many of which become automatic. The modern world overflows with the chores of everyday life and before we know it, days, weeks, all of life passes by and we wonder where on earth we spent it. Here's a reminder to lift your heads up and have a look around, at least once in a while!
